Introducing Africa Collection, our newest curation of woven Bolga baskets & sisal bags handmade by incredible artisans. This collection features baskets made by weavers in the Bolgatanga region of Ghana (the birthplace of the “Bolga” basket) and sisal bags made by the Rural Kamba women in Kenya.
These bags are made using sisal or tough elephant grass dyed in an array of colors. Each basket stands up to use over time and remain functional and beautiful for years.
From start to finish, the process of making a single woven basket can take an entire week. Many weavers sell their baskets at their local craft market, but profits vary based on the buyers and tourists who visit. By teaming up with retailers like us, weavers can receive reliable payment and weave from the comfort of home, which is especially important during the pandemic.
Each purchase from this collection helps support the weavers and their families, celebrates their beautiful traditional work and promotes sustainable methods of production.
We hope you love these special bags as much as we do. We plan on expanding this collection continuously on a long-term basis.
Lots of love,
team LUCINE ♡
